Slinky Antenna G0DUB built a Slinky antenna using four of the childrens toys. The aim is to have a helically loaded dipole which you tune to resonance by shorting out turns at the end of the coils. Depending upon the quality of the Slinkys you buy this isn't really an outdoor antenna since corrosion can set in quite quickly. A useful idea but probably more likely to be an indoor standby antenna for me. I was wondering about abandoning the co-ax feed and jumper wires and feeding it with balanced line as a doublet. It would certainly be easier than tweaking crocodile clips each time I changed band. Sat 15 of Oct, 2005 [19:41 UTC] Sat 15 of Oct, 2005 [19:47 UTC] admin 6 18492 List
G4MWO Wirescape Paul Gaskell, G4MWO submitted this picture of the cluttered wirescape over his back yard. Sat 15 of Oct, 2005 [19:38 UTC] Sat 15 of Oct, 2005 [19:39 UTC] admin 1 11759 List
Linear Loaded Antenna G0DUB had a clash between a HF net and a visit to his Mother one Sunday so it seemed to be an ideal time to try out a linear loaded antenna which we had previously discussed on the mailing list. The details of the antenna can be found at :- http://www.io.com/~n5fc/notebk_ant.htm Sat 15 of Oct, 2005 [19:33 UTC] Sat 15 of Oct, 2005 [19:37 UTC] admin 5 15493 List
Wilmslow Mobile Installation 2003 Although I have listed this as 'mobile' in many cases it would not be sensible to drive with the radios insecure as you see them here Sat 15 of Oct, 2005 [19:29 UTC] Sat 15 of Oct, 2005 [19:31 UTC] admin 2 13467 List
Chester Ad-hoc operation This operation took place on the 26th June 2001. Members from West Cheshire RAYNET took advantage of a Chester & District Radio Society 'Night on the Air' from a local high spot known as 'The Yeld' near Kelsall. Three stations were on air, Graham G7NEH used his FT-817 with 5 Watts output and a W3EDP antenna supported from the ubiquitous fishing poles. Dave G6IFA used an Alinco and mobile whip whilst Alan G8OJQ used a Ten-Tec Corsair and a G5IJ antenna just feet off the ground. All stations operated under the West Cheshire Callsign G0RCW whilst supervised by Greg G0DUB ( who just ran around the field like a mad thing ! ) Sat 15 of Oct, 2005 [19:04 UTC] Sat 15 of Oct, 2005 [19:27 UTC] admin 7 15475 List
Longmynd Hike - 2002 Wayne M5WJF took these images whilst undertaking engineering tests for the 'Longmynd Hike' in Shropshire in 2002. The images should reinforce the view that HF NVIS has a role in RAYNET work where the need is to communicate NOW whilst VHF/UHF talkthroughs are being put in place. G3XRI Antenna System This was the antenna Peter G3XRI used on the NVIS net at the beginning of January 2002. The earth is not connected to any ground system and is the green/yellow wire. The antenna is at best 50ft of wire on the waste piping. Sat 15 of Oct, 2005 [19:11 UTC] Sat 15 of Oct, 2005 [19:13 UTC] admin 2 13822 List
Preston Demonstration Station This was one of our first demonstration stations ! Held at a meeting of the North West RAYNET association at the Emergency Planning Offices in Preston. A Group of us set up the station over a lunchtime in the boot of G0DUB's Suzuki Vitara. The equipment was QRP on 80m and 40m ( a White Mountain 40 2W O/P on 40m SSB and an Epyphyte-2 5Watts out on 80m ). A couple of antennas may be seen, a loaded whip mounted on a tripod and a W3EDP longwire supported by a 17ft fishing pole attached to the front of the car.
